Club Profile: GburgTV

By Evan Rothera

As Sir Winston Churchill once said, “Every day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb.” While many people can undoubtedly attest to the accuracy of this quote, most of these people would be adults, well experienced in the ways of the world, acquainted with both success and failure. There are, however, people on this campus who can attest the veracity of Sir Winston’s statement. Their names are Sebastian DiNatale and Andrew Arenge, the President and Vice President of a new club on campus: GBurgTV.

Like all great ideas, GBurgTV began in a relatively innocuous manner. One day, Sebastian was watching television and noticed that the college owned a channel, which simply had a general message on it. He waited for the message to change, which never happened. It was about that time that a proverbial light bulb went off over Sebastian’s head. Why not, he reasoned, create a club which could create television programming for the campus as a whole? Though a sound idea, Sebastian and Andrew had to fight their way through a torturous process, involving many long and frustratingly complicated and redundant steps. Their hard work did eventually pay off, as GBurgTV is now a club, has received Senate money, has ordered a computer, and is brimming with enthusiasm.

The purpose of GBurgTV, as explained by Sebastian, is “to allow students on campus to be aware of all the activities which the campus has to offer, while providing them with a media outlet to enhance their creative needs.” However, there is a certain degree of reciprocity involved in this process. In essence, “GBurgTV’s essential need to function can be boiled down to one simple fact: it is necessary that there be a significant degree of interest by the student population as a whole.” What GBurgTV will be able to do is directly proportional to the amount of students involved and entertained.

Furthermore, as Sebastian candidly says, “A lot of people are unaware of the club’s capabilities; if you want your own show, you can be on TV! GBurgTV can make it happen.” Undoubtedly the campus will be watching the progress of GBurgTV with interest, becoming more excited as the club is able to start putting filmed events and shows on the channel for the enjoyment of the entire student body. Probably the most important thing to remember is that GBurgTV is willing to work with students, not only to show them intriguing programming, but also to promote and air their own television shows.
