Dear Campus Community Member,
Yesterday afternoon at approximately 4pm and 4:20pm, two males (one active student and one recent graduate) were independently and separately assaulted by an individual described as a white male driving a gold colored Saturn with a Pennsylvania registration. The students were approached by this person and physically assaulted (punched and shoved to the ground). There was no indication of prior provocation. One student was approached and assaulted off-campus on Delap Avenue and the other student was approached and assaulted on Constitution Avenue.
The suspect has been described as a white male, approximately 20 years of age, 170 pounds, about 5′ 10″ tall, with short brown hair. The Gettysburg Borough Police Department is actively investigating this incident and they believe they may have identified a suspect in this case. It is believed that the suspect is not a Gettysburg College student.
Anyone having additional information should contact the Gettysburg Police (334-1168) and Safety and Security (337-6912).
Additional Safety Suggestions:
When walking, walk in the middle of the sidewalk and walk facing oncoming traffic.
Try not to overload yourself with packages or other items. Keep your hands as free as possible.
Do not wear music headphones while walking or jogging.
Do not read while walking or standing on a sidewalk – be alert and attentive to your surroundings.
When encountering someone who seems to be out of place or who exhibits inappropriate or unacceptable behaviors, be alert and try to mentally capture as much physical descriptive information as possible. Move to a safe location (preferably a public space where other people tend to gather) and notify the police immediately.
