Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff:
The College has been contacted by some off-campus organizations wishing to continue their protest of the installation of the John Sims art exhibit and the artist’s representation of the Confederate flag. Specifically, the Sons of Confederate Veterans are planning three protests in the coming days. Two small protests are scheduled for this coming Thursday, September 16th, and Saturday, September 18th. An additional protest is tentatively scheduled for the final weekend of the exhibit, either September 25th or September 26th.
The protest scheduled for Thursday, September 16th, will take place on public property near the intersection of Lincoln and College Avenues from 4 to 7pm. The remaining protestlocations are not yet finalized.
The Office of Safety and Security in conjunction with the Borough police are preparing for the situation. We are committed to the safety and well-being of all members of the campus community. The local police are responsible for public property; they are responsible for designating the protests sites, on public property, where demonstrators may congregate.
For your convenience in traveling the campus, we will keep you apprised of future protest plans and their location.
We continue to encourage you to avoid any confrontations with demonstrators. The best course of action would be to walk away from any confrontation and report any concerns to Safety and Security immediately.
